Romance Formula’s Freaky Flaw

Okay, so if a very common component of the Romance formula requires that the potential love connection has roots in the past, i.e. the high school or maybe childhood love affair (because who in a romance went to college?), at what point do we allow these fools to develop as real adults? Since times have changed a bit (at least outside of Nebraska and Alabama), shouldn’t the market realize that there are stories available for people who can imagine an existence that doesn’t take place in the lives of people who live in the same towns (or worse yet, houses) for 40 fucking years? Jesus, loosen the fuck up! Include the non-agoraphobics who might choose to suffer the humor of online dating, which they do indeed allow in most Southern states–buy an imagination, readers!

What’s the point here? Finding mental exercise in the darnedest places…
